The most sweeping change in the history of the International Patent Classification system is upon us, and Thomson Scientific has worked to ensure a smooth transition. The following changes to enable searching of the new IPC Reform (IPC R) data were made on Delphion during the first week of January:
  • Alerts: If you have not taken the opportunity to review and adjust alert queries that rely on IPC criteria, we urge you to do so. For information on the new IPC R codes, visit the WIPO website.
  • Boolean Search Form: The "IPC Code - Any" field will now search both IPC 7 and IPC R data. The "IPC Code - Main" field is called "IPC Code - Invention/Main" and searches IPC 7 Main and IPC R Invention codes.
  • Advanced Search Form: The "IPC Code" field will now search both IPC 7 and IPC R data, but also includes the option to take advantage of new attributes available in IPC R.
  • Result Set & Delphion Integrated View (DIV): These views will now display both IPC 7 and IPC R codes depending on what is available for a specific publication.
June 19, 2006 Update
  • Reclassification of Backfiles: Delphion backfile collections are being reclassified one authority at a time (US Apps, US Granted, WO, EP, JP, DE, INPADOC). The reclassification is expected to be complete by end of June, and status, on a collection by collection basis, can be checked on the Collection Coverage and Updates page.
  • Browse Codes Search: IPC R codes can be accessed from the Browse Codes Search. Also, IPC R classes shown on the DIV are linked to the new IPC R class browser pages and will show the hit count and class title on mouse-over.
  • Snapshot: The Delphion Snapshot tool now offers you the ability to analyze on both IPC 7 and IPC R codes.
  • Data Extract: Changes to Data Extract have been completed.
