Abstract:     A device for use in preventing snoring comprises a U-shaped member (1) which may be removably fitted upon the upper teeth (12) of a user by means of a trench or channel (5) defined by the member (1). The bottom of the member (1) defines a ramp (6) which is engaged by the user's lower teeth (14) when the device is fitted in the user's mouth. The engagement of the user's lower teeth (14) with the ramp (6) cams the lower jaw forward in response to jaw motions, which in turn elevates the hyoid bone and provides a more open airway. Opening of the airway reduces the velocity of air flowing through the airway which in turn reduces vibration of tissues, which vibration contributes to snoring. An aperture (8) is formed through the U-shaped member (1) to allow for the passage of air through the mouth and into the airway.

A device for preventing snoring, said device comprising a generally U-shaped member (1) to be received in the mouth of a user, characterised in that the generally U-shaped member (1) comprises means (5) for removably mounting the device upon the upper set of teeth, ramp means (6) to engage the lower set of teeth and an aperture (8) extending through the device, the arrangement being such that when the device is mounted upon the upper set of teeth jaw motions of the user cause the lower set of teeth to engage the ramp means (6) and cam the lower jaw forward to provide a more open airway, air flowing through the mouth and into the airway via said aperture (8).

    THE PRESENT INVENTION relates to a device for preventing snoring and more particularly to such a device which is intended to be worn in the mouth of a user.
