Disclosed is a method of marking binary-coded data sets, especially image data or audio signals, by applying at least one information unit to a data set. The invention is characterised by the generation of a discrete position sequence for the application of information units to the data set to be marked, taking into account data-specific characteristics and using a key; and by the fact that the information unit to be applied is written and read at the positions established in the position sequence in the data set.

1. Method of marking data sets in binary coding, particularly raw data or audio signal data, by embedding at least one unit of information into a data set, characterised in that the data set to be marked is subdivided into at least one block of pixels or time signals, which block(s) is/are transformed by means of a function of transformation from the topical or time range into the frequency range, that a discrete sequence of positions is generated for the determination of the embedding position of units of information in the data set to be marked, using data set-specific characteristics and a code, and that said unit of information to be embedded is written into or read out from these positions at the positions in the transformed data set, which are determined by the sequence of positions.
