682.352. Spectacle frames. JAY, L. S., and HENRY, H. J. July 26, 1951 [Aug. 15, 1950], No. 20280/50. Class 97 (i). A pair of spectacles comprises a main frame having eye frames with lenses and a connecting bridge, an auxiliary frame having eye frames and a connecting bridge shaped to fit over and completely mask the front of the main frame, and fastening means for detachably securing the auxiliary frame to the main frame, the fastening means comprising socket portions in one frame set with their axes normal to the faces of that frame and spigot portions carried by or inserted through holes in the other frame adapted to be detachably engaged in the sockets. A munber of auxiliary frames of different colours may be provided to allow the apparent colour of the spectacles to be changed, and the auxiliary frame may be glazed to afford sun spectacles. As shown in Fig. 2 the main frame 10 has tubular portions 22 fixed thereto and forming sockets which engage in holes 27 of the auxiliary frame 17, headed spigot pins 24 frictionally engaging in the sockets and holding the frames together. Alternatively the pins may be fixed within the auxiliary frames 17, or may be threaded to screw within threaded sockets fixed to the frame 10. In the modification shown in Fig. 7 the threaded spigot 24 is inserted from the rear through a hole in the frame 10 and screws into a socket 31 fixed to the auxiliary frame 17.
