A harness for dogs or other animals comprises a body strap 10, one or more bands 11, 12a, 12b attached to the strap and arranged to extend over and/or across the forepart of the body for limiting rearward displacement of the strap 10, and fastening means 14 consisting of plate members 15, 16 secured to the ends 10a, 10b of the strap. the member 15 having a tongue or lug 15a for insertion in a slot 16a in member 16 and being provided with an opening 15b to receive a keeper 17 secured to the strap. The tongue 15a is formed as an eye 22 to which a lead 21 may be attached. The strap 10 is adjustable by means of sliders 28a, 28b.
