Abstract:     PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for smoothing curve and curved surface having no degradation which can be applied generally to the smoothing processing of the segmented linear approximation of a smooth curve or curved surface by generating a low-pass filter effect which is applied to an arbitrary polygonal curve, polyhedral curved surface, etc., as the function of curvature.
SOLUTION: After the set of the vortexes V of an input segmented linear figure 405 is decided, the vicinities of the vortexes are decided with respect to each vortex vi indicating the figure 405 (steps 410 and 420). First and second scale factors having opposite signs, with the negative factors being larger than positive factors, are specified (step 430) and the first and second vector displacement of the vortexes are decided by multiplying mean first and second vectors by the first and second scale factors (steps 440 and 460). Then the positions of the first and second vortexes are decided with respect to all vortexes of the figure 405 (steps 450 and 470) and the present position of each vortex is established as the second position (step 475). Thereafter, the figure thus obtained is evaluated on the basis of smoothness and, when the figure meets the basis, the figure is outputted as a smoothed figure (steps 480 and 490).
