Abstract:     A laminated matrix composite made of a reinforcement phase and coated with several layers of a metallic, ceramic, or polymeric matrix material, the average thickness of the layers of matrix material being between 0.005 and 5 mum thick.

What is claimed is:     1. A laminated matrix composite comprising:
  • (a) a reinforcement phase; and
  • (b) a plurality of layers of at least one material deposited on said reinforcement phase, wherein each layer has an arithmetic mean thickness of less than 0.5 µm.
