Overview The fully integrated Delphion Result Set puts all the tools you need at your fingertips all the time. Whether working with the results of a patent office query, a Derwent query, or the contents of a Snapshot or Work File, you can easily move from one tool to another using the convenient tabbed interface. Following are some of the things you can do from the various control panels that are part of your Result Set:
Typical Result Set Display The following is a high-level look at the main sections of a typical query Result Set or Work File display. Each of these features will be examined in more detail later in this page as well as in the Delphion Help Center pages on the individual tools. ![]() Your Result Set display can be enhanced with thumbnail images and abstracts (both available to Unlimited and Premier subscribers only). The following shows a Result Set similar to the one above but with images and abstracts added. ![]() Depending on your research objectives, the inclusion of these fields in your display could mean that you need to look no further than your Result Set to find the answers you need. [back to top] Looking at the Core of the Display Several of the Delphion tools share the same core display of results. From this core display, you can create or add to Work Files, purchase PDFs instantly, add patent office and Derwent records in a variety of formats to your shopping cart, and display the Delphion Integrated View for listed patents. The core display is also used to select specific patents to be processed in features such as PDF Express or Data Extract. ![]() At the top of every core results display is a control panel that displays features and fields corresponding to the function you are performing or the tool you are using. If you have just run a query, for instance, the control panel at the top will let you refine that query or enter a new query. If you are working with a Work File, the Work File control panel displays. Find out more about these control panels in the sections following that describe the individual tools and features. [back to top] Working with the Result Set from a Patent Office or Derwent Query The Delphion query Result Set gives you the results of your query plus access to a variety of options and tools to continue your exploration without going back to the initial search page. When running a query from any of the patent office or Derwent search pages or utilities, your query results are displayed under the Current Results or Derwent Results tab as part of the fully integrated Delphion Result Set interface The core display of the results has already been described in the Looking at the Core of the Display section. This section will give you an overview of the control panels for both patent office and Derwent queries. Patent office Result Set: ![]() Derwent Result Set: ![]() [back to top] Using the Work Files Interface Work Files are customized lists of patents and Derwent records that you create to help make the most of your research time and effort. You can combine the results from multiple searches into a consolidated list, select just a few patents, or import an existing list of patents from another application. You can set up as many Work Files as you need and then view, edit, clone, delete, or merge Work Files as necessary. ![]() Create new Work Files or access existing ones from the core Result Set display as shown following. ![]() Since a Work File is essentially a customized Result Set, the core display of the records in the center of the page will be just like the display for any new Result Set as explained in Looking at the Core of the Display. The results display for a Work File will still be under the Current Results or Derwent Results tab, but it will have a different control panel at the top of the screen giving you access to the features and functions unique to Work Files. Work files are discussed in complete detail in the Using Work Files page, but the following gives you an overview of the unique Work Files control panel. ![]() [back to top] Downloading through PDF Express From a Work File or the Result Set from a patent office or Derwent query, PDF Express lets you download up to 500 patents all at once in one convenient zip file. Access the PDF Express tool from the PDF Express tab at the top of the fully integrated Delphion Result Set interface. If you are working with the Result Set from a query, those are the files that will be shown in the core results section in the middle of the page under the PDF Express control panel. If you are working with a Work File when you choose to use PDF Express then those are the files displayed when you click the PDF Express tab. PDF Express is discussed in complete detail in the Using PDF Express page in the Delphion Help Center. [back to top] Using Data Extract With Data Extract, you can export patent data from your Work Files or Result Set in formats suitable for import into many popular applications. Data Extract lets you export up to 40-plus key bibliographic fields for up to 20,000 patent records. Data Extract is discussed in complete detail in the Using Data Extract page in the Delphion Help Center. [back to top] Creating a Snapshot to Analyze your Data Snapshot gives you a visual summary of your patent office or Derwent Result Set or your Work File. Select from a list of bibliographic fields (e.g. inventor, assignee, IPC class, or application date), and Snapshot will return a bar chart summary of the specified fields. Refine your query with Snapshot by selecting any item, or multiple items, to re-summarize your results. Or select an item in a bar chart to view the list of patents associated with that item. Full details on using Snapshot are included in the Using Snapshot page in the Delphion Help Center. [back to top] Analyzing Your Data with Clustering Text Clustering is a powerful visualization tool that uses linguistic and relational technology to analyze patent office documents and Derwent records and extract key terms from the title and abstract. Documents are assigned uniquely to one defined cluster; clusters of similar documents are clearly displayed along with the extracted keywords that characterize each cluster. Results can be visualized graphically with a map that provides an overview of the clusters and an indication of the relationship among them. Full details on using Clustering are included in the Using Clustering page in the Delphion Help Center. [back to top] |
