Now, if you import a Work File that includes patent numbers we cannot find, we will substitute equivalents or add kind codes to the numbers you entered. We will also allow you to review and approve the list of substitutions we have made.
If, after looking for equivalents, there are still patent numbers that we do not recognize, we will show you a list of the patents that were not found, and offer you the opportunity to edit those patent numbers.
These enhancements make it easier than ever to look up a group of patent numbers at once, without knowing the exact kind code for each one — and then create exports using Data Extract, bulk-download images using PDF Express, or manipulate the data using any of the Delphion tools.

DWPI Manual Codes are part of the Thomson proprietary indexing system and highlight the unique and significant aspects of an invention, and its commercial application.
Changes to the codes include the addition of new codes for new technologies, revisions to definitions of existing codes to reflect developments in technologies, and discontinuance of outdated codes. The new and revised codes will first appear on new patents included in DWPI from the first update in 2005.
In many cases, you will be able to further refine your searches using the new manual codes. If you are a DWPI user, you will want to review the new codes to see how you will search in sections you use regularly. If you use Saved Searches, you will want to check for codes that have been affected.
