Executives from Motorola, AT&T and IBM join new company providing intellectual asset management solutions

CHICAGO — February 26, 2001 — Delphion Inc., a new company that provides intellectual asset management software and services, today announced the executives who will lead its sales, business development, operations, product development, legal counsel, and marketing functions. The executives have joined Delphion from management positions at companies such as IBM Corp., Motorola Inc. and AT&T.

Delphion was spun out of IBM and funded by Internet Capital Group in 2000. The company's solutions empower intellectual property (IP) and business professionals to research, manage and leverage IP assets to explore new business opportunities and generate new revenue and profits. Delphion's solutions are based on technologies originally developed by IBM, the world leader in IP management. Delphion's online database of patent documents garners more than 10 million hits each week, making it the world's most popular online destination for researching patents.

"We have assembled a leadership team that has the experience and skills necessary to quickly grow an emerging technology company into a market leader," said Woody Ritchey, president and CEO of Delphion. "They bring to Delphion exceptional track records, having achieved tremendous success with some of the most dynamic technology companies in the world."

Delphion's management team, in addition to CEO Ritchey, includes:

  • Peter Vanderheyden, vice president of business development
Vanderheyden played a key role in the creation of Delphion, leading the transformation of IBM's hugely successful Intellectual Property Network from a research project into the business unit that was spun off to become Delphion. At IBM, where he served for more than 16 years, Vanderheyden held senior management positions in business development and finance, and was at the forefront of several of the company's new business ventures.

  • Joseph Lamont, vice president of operations
Lamont brings to Delphion more than 25 years of experience in global sales and operations management for technology companies. Before joining Delphion, he was a senior director at Savvis Communications, a global internetworking company. Prior to Savvis, Lamont was a director at INVISIX, a joint venture between Cisco Systems Inc. and Motorola developing advanced wireless technologies. Earlier, he held sales management positions at AT&T.

  • Linda Fritzsche, vice president of marketing
Fritzsche has more than 16 years of experience in business-to-business software marketing. Prior to joining Delphion, she oversaw corporate marketing at PLATINUM technology inc., a global provider of enterprise software that grew to $1 billion in revenue from $300 million in just three years. Fritzsche's responsibilities included creating, implementing and managing PLATINUM's overall positioning and marketing strategy.

  • Mark K. Jackson, vice president of product development
Jackson joined Delphion from IBM, where he oversaw the development of the IBM Intellectual Property Network — a solution now at the core of Delphion's portfolio. At IBM, he led the development of the IPN for more than five years. During his 16-year career at IBM, Jackson held roles in the company's research and software sectors, including its esteemed Almaden Research Center.

  • Scott Macdonald, vice president of sales
Macdonald brings to Delphion more than 20 years of experience in information technology sales and marketing. For the last 11 years, he has focused on enterprise resource planning and supply chain management software solutions. In his career, Macdonald has successfully developed and managed domestic and international sales operations for emerging-growth companies and global leaders, including IBM, Aspect Development Inc., and System Software Associates.

  • Robert Smith, vice president and general counsel
A seasoned business lawyer, Smith has more than 13 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, international transactions, SEC matters, financings, regulatory issues, technology issues and litigation management. Prior to joining Delphion, Smith was a senior counsel and law department director for Motorola.
