CHICAGO April 11, 2001 Delphion Inc., a leading provider of intellectual asset management software and services, today announced expanded patent collections and new tools for its Delphion Intellectual Property Network the world's most popular database for researching, analyzing and exploring patents and related information. The new features include searchable full-text patent collections of the European Patent Office and World Intellectual Property Organization. With these expanded collections, Delphion will offer its users a single resource to access all major worldwide patent collections in their entirety.
The pioneer of web-based patent searching, Delphion is focused on making patent research easier, faster and more cost-effective for intellectual property and business professionals. Other Internet patent research solutions require users to conduct multiple searches across disparate sources of patent data, which can be time-consuming and lead to incomplete results.
Delphion addresses these problems in two primary ways:
- providing a unified resource that enables users to search any or all of the world's top patent collections at one time; and
- presenting a comprehensive view of patent information with the Delphion Integrated View, which intelligently combines into one page, information about a patent's global family, legal status actions, assignee's business profile and prior art.
Patent researchers gain significant value from having access to patent collections worldwide. "In the global market that companies compete in today, it's no longer prudent to solely rely on U.S. patent information," said Woody Ritchey, president and CEO of Delphion. "For example, there's a tremendous amount of critical intelligence that may appear much earlier in European and PCT patent collections than in the U.S. collection. Searching worldwide patent data is essential to ensure the level of insight required to compete in today's marketplace."
The new features of the Delphion IPN will include:
- Expanded Patent Collections
Delphion will expand its existing European Patent Office and World Intellectual Property Organization PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) patent collections to include searchable full text. Delphion will also add pre-1971 U.S. patents. The Delphion IPN already features the bibliographic text and images of EPO patents and patent applications and PCT patents; bibliographic full text and images of U.S. patents; bibliographic text and images of the Patent Abstracts of Japan; and INPADOC collection of global patent family and legal status information. The Delphion IPN also features the patent abstracts of the Derwent World Patents Index. These collections comprise the six most valued patent collections worldwide.
- Saved Search
With the Saved Search feature, Delphion IPN users will be able to save patent searches, so they can quickly conduct the same searches again later. This can streamline users' work by helping them avoid the time-consuming task of repeatedly constructing the same queries.
- Alerts
With the Alerts feature, Delphion IPN users will be able to receive automatic updates by email on patents that match the criteria of their saved searches. As a result, users will be able to monitor competitor and industry patent activity more easily and efficiently.
- Enhanced prior art searching
Delphion will enhance its collection of non-patent prior art resources by adding access to IP.com's complete database of defensive disclosures. The Delphion IPN currently features Technical Disclosure Bulletins from IBM and scientific journal abstracts from ISI.
Delphion plans to make the new Delphion IPN features available on June 1, 2001. The features will be part of the subscription-based services that Delphion is introducing.
The Delphion IPN is the world's most popular online database for researching, analyzing and exploring patents and related information. Each week, the Delphion IPN garners more than 10 million hits. The Delphion IPN enables its users to
search the world's top patent collections all at one time
streamline their patent searches with clear, concise patent abstracts from Derwent
quickly find prior art
dissect patent groups with powerful analysis tools
browse the world's largest inventory of patents available for license safely and confidentially.
