CHICAGO January 14, 2002 Delphion Inc., the leading provider of software and services for managing intellectual assets, and PATOLIS Corp., a spin-out of the Japan Patent Information Organization (JAPIO) and the first privatized company of a Japanese public organization, today announced an agreement that enables PATOLIS to leverage Delphion's solutions to significantly expand its online patent information service called PATOLIS-web.
With Delphion's solutions, PATOLIS is now enhancing its website with e-commerce services, additional patent collections from throughout the world, and advanced research technologies. As a result, PATOLIS will be able to provide its clients with the capabilities they need to better research, analyze and explore all the patents that impact their global markets. In addition, PATOLIS will be gaining an additional revenue stream to help ensure future growth, innovation, and service to their customers.
"Delphion's software is enabling PATOLIS to provide a significantly more comprehensive array of services online — providing great benefits to both our customers and business," said Yutaka Wada, Chairman and CEO of PATOLIS. "Our alliance with Delphion strengthens PATOLIS's position as Japan's leading patent information provider."
"Today more than ever, business professionals are relying on patent information to better analyze and understand their markets and competition — presenting both a challenge and an opportunity for patent information providers," said Woody Ritchey, president and CEO of Delphion. "Leading organizations like PATOLIS are seizing the opportunity to offer their clients new levels of service. Delphion is ideally positioned to address this need by offering a complete solution that includes software, content and services.
"
Delphion's software and consulting services enable customers to quickly implement a robust, e-commerce enabled patent search website. The software is providing PATOLIS with these key features and benefits:
- Ability to Expand Patent Data Collections
Delphion's powerful software standardizes data formats from diverse patent collections so users can search and view all patents in a uniform manner — regardless of the original source. As a result, PATOLIS customers will be able to access patents from all of the world's top collections, including those of the U.S., Europe and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
- Cross-Collection Searching
By standardizing data formats, the Delphion software also enables PATOLIS users to search any or all of the world's top patent collections at one time. This can provide a significant time-savings for users and a key competitive advantage for PATOLIS.
- Search Technology Designed for Both Expert and Novice Researchers
The search engine technology built into Delphion's software allows users to conduct searches by patent number or Boolean method, eliminating the need for users to learn complex search commands. By providing technology for both expert and novice researchers, PATOLIS can attract a larger customer base in non-Japanese patent fields.
- E-commerce
Delphion's software leverages IBM's market-proven e-commerce platform Websphere Commerce Suite, providing customers with optimum performance and security for conducting online business transactions.
- Kanji Interface
Working with IBM Japan, Delphion has created an interface for the PATOLIS website that is ideally suited for the organization's predominantly Japanese user base.
In addition to PATOLIS, the Delphion software solution has been deployed at national patent offices, including those of Switzerland and The Netherlands. A version of the software is also at the heart of Delphion Research, the company's market-leading Internet-based service for researching intellectual property.
PATOLIS Corp. launched its business on April 1, 2001, taking over the patent information service business from Japan Patent Information Organization (JAPIO), which had provided continuous high-quality patent information for 30 years. The company provides intellectual property information/solution service. "PATOLIS," which is the name of the company, is also the name for the world's leading online database used exclusively for intellectual property information. PATOLIS is well-known by and enjoys the confidence of users around the world, not just in Japan, with its high-quality, secure system. The company's phone number for non-Japanese customers is +81-3-5690-5607, and its website address is www.patolis.co.jp/e-index.html.
Delphion Inc. provides intellectual asset management software and services. In 2000, the company was spun out of IBM Corp. (NYSE: IBM) and funded by Internet Capital Group (Nasdaq: ICGE). Delphion's solutions are based on technologies and best practices originally developed by IBM, a world leader in intellectual asset management. Delphion is based in the Chicago suburb of Lisle, Ill. The company's main phone number is 630-799-0600, and its website address is www.delphion.com.
