Philadelphia, PA USA-London UK October 7, 2004 Today, The Thomson Corporation (NYSE:TOC; TSX: TOC) announced that Delphion, its foremost patent research source, now gives legal practitioners and consultants the ability to track daily intellectual property research activities and report on them for client chargeback.
"The enhanced Tracking functionality on Delphion enables our IP practitioners to automatically capture and allocate time and transactional charges incurred on behalf of a client," explained Julia Jackson, Esq. Director of Library Services, Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, a worldwide intellectual property law firm headquartered in Chicago, IL. "We pride ourselves on providing superior legal services to our clients at competitive rates, so it is essential that we minimize our overhead and accurately capture expenses directly related to a client matter and bill them in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with our clients' needs. Delphion Tracking lets us do that."
New Tracking enhancements give firms the ability to track time, search activity, record views, document downloads and use of analysis and productivity tools. Detailed activity trails provide specific information and can be used as search histories, complete with the ability to re-execute many tasks. Both users and account administrators have detailed, flexible reporting options, including the ability to export to spreadsheet format or email reports.
New features include:
- Powerful controls give account administrators the ability to define which activities users can track, whether or not to make tracking mandatory, and what costs to assign to items being tracked.
- A flexible client reference identifier allows unprecedented granularity in tracking and reporting activities. Up to three separate segments can be used to identify clients, and account administrators have ultimate control over the format of the references as well as control over which segments, if any, users are allowed to create themselves.
- Reports can reflect actual costs, locally assigned costs or no costs at all. Cost reporting can include overall time spent so resulting reports can be directly included in client invoices.
- An intuitive Tracking console makes it convenient for users to start or stop Tracking as well as change client references.
"These features were developed in direct response to requests from the legal and consulting communities for help in tracking and reporting research activities in support of client chargeback efforts," explained Brian Tyler, Executive Vice President, Corporate Markets, Thomson Scientific. "And these same features can benefit corporate users who need to allocate expenses across departments."
Tracking time, details and feature use is free of charge for Delphion group and corporate accounts.
